Background & Experience:

I'm Melanie Michon, owner of Happy Tails Pet Sitting & Animal Care. I grew up an animal crazy kid in western Massachusetts. We always had pets in our home, and when I was 7, I had my first sit on my godmother's horse. After that, I begged my parents to let me take riding lessons, which cemented a lifelong love of all 4 legged critters, especially horses. All while growing up I wanted to be a veterinarian, but my strengths in school ran more toward the arts and humanities, so instead I attended Syracuse University as an advertising major, and became a graphic designer. All through high school, college, and afterward, I rode horses and worked in horse barns, owned and fostered dogs and cats as I could, and kept my love for the critters alive, while working "a real job" in advertising/graphic design in New Hampshire and Boston. I truly enjoyed what I did, but after 9/11, I refocused, and decided I had to follow my true passion... I wanted to work with animals. So I moved to New York to work with horses, then after a few year I went back to school to get my degree in Veterinary Technology. I worked as an equine and small animal tech for a few years, but felt a bit stuck. After considering options and researching alternatives, I found a wonderful option... Pet Sitting! I didn't know much about the industry, but as I looked into it more, I realized it was exactly what I wanted to do! So I set the groundwork for opening my own pet sitting business, and started part time, while working a full time job, in the spring of 2008. My client list grew, and things began to move... in fall 2010 I quit my job and dove in head first into full time Pet Sitting! Happy Tails has been growing steadily ever since, and we now proudly offer sitting 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with 5 sitters on staff. Happy Tails' mission is to offer the highest quality professional pet sitting and animal care, for domestic animals as well as farm animals, horses and exotics. We offer our superior services to Dutchess County, NY, specifically Millbrook and the surrounding towns. Happy Tails is proud to have grown into the finest pet sitting service in the area.
